Overview
Procedural hair and fur, from guides to animation.
WGen combines hands-on guide editing with procedural modifiers to create character hair and fur. Establish direction and silhouette, then refine density, strand width and clump shape. Each stage remains editable: adjust the original guides or an individual modifier and evaluate the result again.
Control the shape, density and detail
- Start with shape: sculpt guide curves and interpolate hair between them.
- Build the detail: control density and width, form clumps, add bends and trim strand length.
- Keep changes manageable: connect generators and modifiers in WGen Node Editor and adjust each stage separately.
- Connect animation: drive hair from animated guides and deforming surfaces with Anim Wires, Skinning and Wrap.
- Fit your pipeline: store the procedural description in USD and use integrations with A3DP, Maya, Houdini and Katana.
